What You Should Know About What to Wear on your ATV in Fall

We get it. The fall season is coming, but you’ve got no interest in putting your ATV away just yet; it’s still perfect riding weather! With the change of the season comes a drop in the temperatures, so just as much as you want to stay safe, you also have to stay warm and dry. If you’ve been riding around in shorts and kneepads, it’s time to put those away and invest in some quality gear to protect yourself. If you want to know what to wear on your ATV in the fall, read on.

make sure you've got a good helmet and pair of goggles for what to wear on your ATV in fall

Helmet and Goggles

No matter what the season is, your number one priority when riding an ATV should be to wear a helmet. An accident can happen at 5 mph or 50 mph, and there’s nothing more important you need to protect than your head. Additionally, most states legally require that you wear a helmet when you go riding.

Whether you’re looking for an open-faced or full-faced helmet, there are a few things you should look out for. In the pursuit of the utmost safety, you should look for “DOT” and/or “Snell” logos. These mean the helmet has passed rigorous safety standards.

Your helmet should also fit nice and snug, and should not rotate whatsoever once it’s been strapped on. Can you fit your thumb between your forehead and the helmet? Well, this indicates that the helmet is too big! It’s important to make sure that your helmet doesn’t obstruct your view. Above all, you need to have 100% of your peripheral vision when you’re riding.

If you’re looking for an open-faced helmet, you should also shop around for goggles. You don’t want the sheer wind to hit your face, or for bugs to collide with your face!

Yamaha has a great collection of affordable helmets, all of which are DOT approved. Are you shopping around for open-face helmets? If so, be sure to check out their eyewear and check to ensure the goggles fit your helmet.

make sure you have riding jerseys and jackets, too!

Riding Jerseys and Jackets

Whether it’s hot or cold, your first layer should be some kind of long-sleeved shirt when you ride an ATV. The long sleeve shirt works in tandem with your riding jacket when you take a spill. If anything manages to pierce the lining of your jacket, you have an added layer of protection. It’s made to prevent (just about) anything from penetrating your skin.

You can wear any kind of shirt while you’re ATV riding. But we highly recommend investing in some riding jerseys for the most comfort. They’re made from moisture-wicking materials that protect you from elements like snow or rain, keeping you warm and dry. If your fall season is warm enough to ride around in just a jersey, make sure to invest in one with good elbow pads. A little insurance goes a long way when considering what to wear on your ATV in Fall.

If your fall season is a little cooler, you should invest in a riding jacket. These jackets are well-padded. They feature lining that is designed to retain your body heat, keeping you toasty no matter where you’re riding. Just like the jerseys, they’re also made from moisture-wicking materials.

Can-AM makes some great jerseys with quick-dry, antibacterial, moisture-wicking fabric and a mesh fabric for extra ventilation. If you’re shopping for jackets, check out Suzuki’s Adventure Jacket, with plenty of cargo pockets and a zip-out thermolite liner.

wondering what to wear on your ATV in Fall ? definitely riding pants!

Riding Pants

A good pair of long pants serve the same purpose as long sleeve shirts and jackets. Which is to say they protect your skin and your joints should you suffer any kind of fall. ATV safety is serious and is important from head to toe.

An ATV is hot and you need to protect your legs, but you also don’t want to overheat yourself. Here’s the issue with traditional jeans or pants. They offer no form of ventilation and very little in the way of actual protection. We recommend specially designed pants for riding.

The benefits of these start with the rugged materials that they’re made from, preventing any rips and tears. They’re also well-padded! Which is great for protecting all parts of your legs. But especially the part that typically takes the most impact: your knees. They’re designed with ventilation and flexibility in mind. Further ensuring that you’re safe and comfortable no matter what you’re riding or in what season.

Check out these polyester riding pants from Yamaha! They feature reinforced panel in the inner knee for heat. As well as abrasion protection and stretch inserts for added flexibility and comfort.

The Best Street Legal Motor Scooters for Enjoying Autumn

If you’ve seen people riding around your city on a motor scooter, there’s no doubt about it; it looks like fun! Well, that’s because it is fun! It’s all the fun of a motorcycle in an easy-to-handle package. Not to mention is great for quickly and easily zipping around town, getting errands done, or just enjoying the beautiful fall weather! If you’ve been thinking about joining the growing population of motor scooter owners, there’s never been a better time! So sit down, get your helmet on, and get ready for our list of the best motor scooter for enjoying the fall weather!

Wait, Do You Mean a Moped?

So there’s a bit of confusion around this: what’s the difference between a moped and motor scooter? Is there a difference? The answer is yes! The definition from Oxford says that a motor scooter is “A light two-wheeled open motor vehicle on which the driver sits over an enclosed engine with their legs together and their feet resting on a floorboard.”

Is that different from a moped? Again, the answer is yes! A moped is “A light motorcycle, especially one with an engine capacity of not more than 50 CC”. So what we would traditionally think of as a “moped” is actually a motor scooter. The two terms are often used interchangeably. A moped also has pedals to start the motor and that can move the bike like a bicycle… however, we wouldn’t recommend doing so. Hence the name, MO(motor)PED(pedals).

The major difference is that you do not straddle a motor scooter. A motor scooter has a floorboard for your fit to be placed on together. A moped, on the other hand, is straddled like a motorcycle over the engine.

So now that we know what we’re talking about, let’s take a look at the best motor scooters do get you out and enjoying the fall!

If you’re itching to join the droves of leaf-peepers for this coming fall season, we’ve got good news for you. We’ve compiled a list of some of the most beautiful fall foliage motorcycle rides!

The 6 Best Foliage Rides in the U.S.

the most beautiful fall foliage motorcycle rides

6. Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia/North Carolina

You can’t write about the best Fall foliage motorcycle rides without talking about the famed Blue Ridge Parkway. The parkway is a 469-mile drive that stretches from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina.

At the higher elevations in the mountains, the leaves start changing in early October and descend into the lower elevations by the end of the month. With such an expansive drive through east coast forests, you come across trees of all species, from beautiful hickories to oaks to amazing sourwoods!

There’s plenty of places to stop on the way, like Linville Falls, one of the most photographed waterfalls in the United States. If you’re up for a hike and some even better views, we would highly suggest Grandfather Mountain.

make sure you visit New Hampshire for one of the best motorcycle rides this fall

5. Kancamagus, New Hampshire

The Kancamangus is one of the shorter drives on this list, clocking in at only 34 miles. But trust us, this scenic byway is jam-packed full of fiery reds, burnt oranges, and vibrant yellows. With hardwood forests and alpine peaks, it’s no wonder that people flock to New Hampshire to see the leaves change every year.

There’s plenty of scenic overlooks throughout the trip, and if you’re there early enough in the season, you can make the trip up to Mount Washington. Mount Washington is the highest peak in the northeastern U.S. at 6,200 feet and is part of New Hampshire’s Presidential Range.

4. Driftless Region, Wisconsin

The Driftless Region in Wisconsin brings some of the most spectacular fall foliage on this list. A winding loop, you start and end your trip in Mineral Point. You’ll see all varieties of trees that are famous for their autumnal foliage, like maple and sumac.

There are tons of great scenic views to partake in the Driftless Region. We would suggest checking out Great River Road along the Mississippi, but the list is as long as your imagination.

3. Tunnel of Trees, Michigan

The Tunnel of Trees in Michigan is known as one of the most scenic drives in all of the midwest. As the name suggests, you drive along a stretch of road under a dense canopy of trees that explode into color as the fall season reaches Michigan.

Another short one, the Tunnel of Trees is a 20-mile route off of M-119. But like the Kancamagus, this is an absolute must-see. You start your ride in Harbor Springs and you reach some winding roads around Devil’s Elbow and Horseshoe Curve. The route is littered with unique shops, small towns, and plenty of great food worth stopping for.

2. Olympic Peninsula, Washington

Don’t think the west coast has nothing to contribute! The Olympic Penninsula is a 350-mile route located along the northern coast of Washington, right through Olympic National Park! Much of the route is lined by gorgeous spruces and strong, beautiful evergreens. While you don’t get the foliage on those conifers, it all adds up to a beautiful ride.

make it out for some fall motorcycle rides

1. Eastern Sierras, California

The Eastern Sierras in California is a rugged but beautiful sight. With the autumnal colors of the aspens, willows, and cottonwoods playing against the crystalline blues of the lakes and waterfalls, you’ll think you were driving through a Bob Ross painting.

California might not be the first place you think of when you think of fall, but it really is a sight to behold! To make the most of your trip, we would recommend you take the route from Lundy Lake to Mono Lake to the Mammoth Lakes. If you like Halloween vibes, you should also check out Bodie, one of the largest unrestored ghost towns in the US!
